What is CAPTCHA?

CAPTCHA stands for "Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart", and is a type of challenge-response test used in computing to determine whether the user is human.

Why is it used?

The goal of this test is to prevent spam. Like promotion spam, registration spam, and data scraping.

Many websites use CAPTCHA to prevent bot raiding, and it's effective. Humans can complete CAPTCHA tests, while most robots can't. Bots are less likely to abuse websites with spamming if those websites use CAPTCHA.

Types of CAPTCHA Sellfy offers

In order to protect your store from malicious users and bots, all Sellfy stores are protected by CAPTCHA.

We offer two different types:

  1. reCaptcha by Google
  2. hCaptcha

What's the difference?

The hCaptcha is more advanced and offers stronger protection than Google's reCaptcha. If you're receiving spam that Google's reCaptcha isn't able to prevent, we'd recommend updating your store forms to use hCaptcha.

See how to do this below!

Which forms are protected?

We offer CAPTCHA protection on your:
  • Newsletter subscription form
  • Contact form
  • Subscription cancellation form (If you sell Subscription products)

Note: CAPTCHA protection won't interfere with your customer's checkout.

How to choose one for my store

Google's reCaptcha software is provided by default, so it's not required to choose a form. But, if you prefer the hCAPTCHA's stronger protection, you can update this in your Store Customizer.

To update the CAPTCHA type:

  1. Open your Store Customizer
  2. Click on General settings
  3. Select a "Captcha provider"
  4. Publish to save!
