How to set up Facebook Pixel with Sellfy

The Facebook Pixel is an analytics tool that allows you to measure the effectiveness of your Facebook advertising.

Once you've created a Pixel in your Facebook Ads Manager, you can integrate it with your Sellfy account. If you have not created one yet, please refer to this Facebook Help page for more information and instructions first.

After you've added your Pixel ID to Sellfy, please make sure to verify your domain ownership with Facebook.

To integrate an existing Pixel with your store:

  1. Log into Facebook
  2. Go to your Events Manager Overview
  3. Copy your ID shown in the upper right corner

  4. Log in to your Sellfy account
  5. Go to Apps > Facebook Pixel
  6. Paste the Pixel ID

  7. Click Save

Now, as long as your domain is verified with Facebook, we'll be able to send specific checkout events to the Facebook Ads platform. This will enable you to create personalized ads for your customers!

What events does Sellfy track?

Sellfy will automatically track the following events and relay them to your Facebook Pixel analytics.

  • Page view - each time a customer visits your store or a single product page.
  • View content - each time a customer visits your single product page.
  • Add to Cart - each time a customer adds a product to the cart or clicks the "Buy now" button on a single product page.
  • Initiate checkout - each time a customer visits the checkout page.
  • Purchase - sent once, right after a customer purchases single/multiple items.

How do I verify or confirm domain ownership in Business Manager?

There are three different ways to confirm your domain ownership through the Facebook Business Manager. The way that you confirm your domain ownership will depend on whether you've connected a root domain or a subdomain.

Not sure if you have a root domain or a subdomain? Try reading the definitions we have laid out here. The two will be visually different. (e.g. rootdomain.com vs. www.subdomain.com)

The three methods that Facebook provides to verify are:

  1. Add a DNS TXT entry to your DNS record to confirm that you own the domain
  2. Upload an HTML file provided by Facebook to your web directory and confirm domain ownership in Business Manager.
  3. Add a meta-tag to the <head> section of your domain home page (root domain and Sellfy subdomain only)

Verify a root domain or a Sellfy store subdomain

To verify domain ownership for root domains, you may choose any of the three methods above, but we recommend number three, adding a meta tag to the  <head>  code section of your Sellfy store customizer. This third option is also recommended for anyone using a Sellfy store subdomain

To get the meta-tag from Facebook, please follow these steps.

  1. Add your domain to your Facebook Business Manager

  2. Under Verify your domain you'll select "Add a meta-tag to your HTML source code"
  3. Copy the provided meta-tag

  4. Paste the meta-tag in the Head code of your Store Customizer and Publish

  5. Select Verify Domain

Please leave the meta tag on your domain home page as it may be checked periodically for verification purposes.

For more information on this process, please read Verifying Your Domain by Facebook.

Verify a custom domain that is a subdomain

To verify domain ownership for a subdomain, you'll need to choose either the first or second option for verification.

  1. Add a DNS TXT entry to your DNS record to confirm that you own the domain
    1. Navigate to the DNS record section of your domain host.
    2. Add the TXT entry to your DNS record.
    3. Add @ to the Host field (if it is required by your domain host).
    4. Once the changes have propagated across your domain's web servers, click the Verify button at the bottom of the DNS Verification tab for the selected domain.
    5. Leave the TXT entry in your DNS record as it may be checked periodically for verification purposes.
  2. Upload an HTML file provided by Facebook to your web directory and confirm domain ownership in Business Manager.
    1. Download the HTML verification file.
    2. Upload the file to the root directory of your website. You will be able to see that it is uploading at the link provided in the HTML File Upload tab.
    3. Once it is done, click the Verify button at the bottom of the HTML File Verification tab for the selected domain.
    4. Leave the HTML verification file in your website's root directory as it may be checked periodically for verification purposes.

For each method, you'll need to make changes to the DNS settings of your hosting provider. You'll see the step-by-step instructions for each, with visual help, here in Facebook's instructions.
